Tourists have always visited my island. Unfortunately, traditional tourism has sometimes helped to ruin the natural wonders that attract it. For this reason, eco-tourism, which aims to protect the environment, is a very good thing for this country. Tourism is very important to us. It brings money and jobs to the island and has enabled us to improve our way of life as well as to build modern roads and an airport fromwhich we benefit. However, tourism has negative effects too. More aeroplanes and buses and cars mean more pollution. Speed boats and cruise ships disturb and even kill sea life. If people are not careful when they visit coral reefs and rainforests these precious places will eventually be destroyed. Some tourists use a lot of our precious resources by taking lots of showers and using air conditioning. On the other hand, eco-tourists aim to respect the environment which they are visiting. They come in smaller groups and try not to harm the places they visit. They stay in locally owned hotels and eat locally grown food so that the money they spend stays in our country. They try to use less water and electricity. In conclusion, this new type of tourist is good for the country in many ways and should be encouraged by the government and welcomed by our people.
