On the other hand, night-time street lighting is important; particularly for those who work at night or who come home late from social events. We know, also, that there are more car accidents after dark and that criminals operate more frequently in dark places. By turning off the lights we will spend less money and use less energy but it may cost us more in the long run. An increase in both accidents and crime would mean funding more police and ambulance services. There are other solutions. Firstly, street lights could be dimmed rather than extinguished. Secondly all lighting should use LED lamps which are energy efficient and therefore cheaper than those we currently use. Finally, we could order schools, shops and other buildings to turn off all their lights at night. I hope you will agree that the council’s proposal is a big mistake. Thank you. Unit 6 Listen up ! I’m a Creative I once made a hat for my grandma to wear But the flowers fell off and got caught in her hair. I wove a straw basket – a home for my cat But it disintegrated all over the mat. The cake that I made for a big celebration Was greeted by all with huge acclamation. Cream swirls, blue icing, green piping – incredible! Only one problem – the cake was inedible.
