We use singular verbs with words like everybody and nobody : Nobody wants these animals to die out. Every person is special.

• Remind students that verbs ending in ‘sh’, ‘tch’ and ‘x’ add ‘es’ in the simple present tense, e.g. he brush es , he catch es , he mix es . The verbs ‘go’ and ‘do’ also add ‘-es’: he go es , he do es . • Students often use the plural form of the verb with indefinite pronouns such as everyone and nobody so give plenty of practice. CR Compare the present tense in Creole and Standard English. Remind students that in Standard English, the 3rd person singular verb ends in ‘s’. Make present tense sentences in Creole so students can observe the difference.
