5 Describe what is happening in the picture. Write at least five sentences in the present continuous tense.
• Exercise 1: Work with some students to distinguish between present and past continuous in the story. The first page of the story is told in the past tense and contains past continuous verbs. The dialogue on page 35 includes verbs in the present continuous. • Exercise 5: Ask students to construct questions in the present continuous tense, based on the picture. The illustration can also be used to further practise description. Students can imagine they are at the scene and say what they see, hear and feel.
