Speaking and listening 1  In pairs, prepare a reading of the verses below from Baby-K Rap Rhyme.

1 Read the verses aloud. Clap the beat to observe the rhythm. 2 How is the mood of the first two verses different from the last two verses? 3 How can you use your voice, actions and body language to express the mood? 4 Practise your performance several times. 5 Perform your verses to another pair.

We add an apostrophe (’) to a noun to make a possessive noun: the sea’s fine treasure. Compare this with what Baby-K says: Ah bouncing an ah rocking/On my Mommy knee

ICT Video or record students’ performances during practice. Have them assess their own performance using the organiser on page 164. Help them to decide one area to work on (e.g. rhythm, enunciation, pace). Record the final performance and, with students, compare the two. • Speaking and listening: Make the first section of the poem (see Listening texts page 177) available to students and prepare a class or choral reading of the whole poem. Divide the poem into sections and allocate parts to different groups.
