2 Fit the band around your head.
3 T ake it off carefully and staple the ends together. Staple from inside to out to avoid the staples sticking into your head.
Now make the cross pieces. 4 Cut two cross pieces of the same width and staple them in place from front to back and side to side. Make sure this headpiece is firmly fixed together.
HANDY TIP Make a paper template for each part of your headdress. Then you will be able to make another headdress more quickly next time.
Next make the front piece. This is the part that will show. It can be wavy or spiky or just a gentle curve.
5 Draw the shape onto paper and make sure you are happy with the size and shape before you copy and cut out the real thing in card.
6 Now paint your front piece.
7 Glue on the trimmings of your choice. Wait patiently until the glue is dry.
Finally, assemble it. 8 Attach the front piece securely to the frame. Glue or staple in several places. Wear it outside with pride!
• Emphasise the importance of giving instructions in the correct sequence. Write out instructions for a simple task, such as washing the dishes or getting dressed in the wrong order. Ask students to tell you what would happen if they followed them. Then ask them to sort them into the correct sequence. • You may not have time or materials to create headdresses in the classroom but students can be encouraged to follow the instructions to make one at home.
