Comparing irregular adverbs
Some adverbs do not follow the rules. You need to learn these irregular forms: well – better – best badly – worse – worst little – less – least much – more – most far – farther / further – farthest / furthest
8 Write sentences comparing how these carnival characters do things.
Example: We performed / the other band. (well) è We performed better than the other band.
• Extension: Ask students to do some research and come up with suggestions for which athletes run the fastest or jump the highest; which cricketers or footballers play the best. They can choose two teams or sportspeople and compare them by saying which one runs faster or plays better than the other. Emphasise that they should use comparative adverbs and not adjectives. (Point out that better is an adjective in the sentence He is a better player .) 1 Mom said the last band sang _________ (badly) of all. 2 That day, Malina ate a lot _________ (little) than I did. 3 The teacher liked Tariq’s story _________ (well) than she liked mine. 4 We saw our friends _________ (often) than we expected. 5 Please speak _________ (clearly) than before. 6 Of all the music, I enjoyed the calypso _________ (much). 1 The monster danced / the angel.
