4 Ask your partner to read the instructions to see if they are clear.

Instructions checklist Have I included: a list of things I need?

the command form of verbs? numbered steps? Are the steps in the correct order?

Conclusion

• ‘Process narratives’ describe, step-by-step, the way something is done. They can take the form of numbered instructions (as in ‘How to Make a Carnival Headdress’) or they can be presented in paragraphs, using transition words to link paragraphs. Ask students: Which is more helpful if you are trying to make something and why? • Portfolio: Include examples of instructions in students’ portfolios.
