Language Contractions
Contractions are short forms of verbs. That isn’t fair. isn’t = is + not We put ’ in place of the missing letters. We call ’ an apostrophe .
1 Find two more contractions in the text on pages 110–111. What are the full forms of these verbs?
• Speaking and listening: Explain to students that when they give their opinion in a speech they must provide examples to support it. Point out the examples the girls gave in their speech on pages 110–111. • They can use the table on the previous page to help them make notes for their speech. CR Students can use Creole in their discussion, but should make notes in Standard English as they will use Standard English in their speech.
