Rewrite the story. Use quotation marks. Remember to put a comma, an exclamation mark or a question mark at the end of the speech. Example: “Hurry up!” said Mommy. Hurry up said Mommy.
What time is it asked Anna. Half past seven said Mommy. There’s plenty of time said Josh. Here’s Daddy with the car said Mommy. We’re ready now Mommy said Josh and Anna. Bye Bye called Mommy.
Word work: homophones
Some words sound the same but have different meanings and spellings. Some of the students helped Grace with her work. They showed her how to do the sum .
• Exercise 4: Read through the conversation and ask students to identify the speech. Then ask them which punctuation mark should be put at the end of the speech. DA Ask all students to identify the words which were spoken, but allow some students to write only the first three or four responses.
