The Water Cycle We cannot create or destroy water. The amount of water on the earth today is the same as it was millions of years ago. This is why we need to use water carefully. The water on earth is recycled. We call this process the water cycle . This cycle has different stages.

Stages of the water cycle

Precipitation Precipitation happens when there is so much water in the clouds that rain begins to fall. The rain fills our rivers, lakes and oceans. This process is called collection . We use the water from lakes and rivers for drinking, washing and watering crops.

•  Let’s talk: Use students’ prior knowledge to help them approach the text about the water cycle. •  Reading: Explain difficult words like ‘precipitation’ to students. Tell them to look at the diagrams and explain in their own words what they can see.
