Evaporation What happens when the sun comes out after it has rained? Steam or vapour rises out of the ground. The steam is known as water vapour. Trees and plants lose water too and add to the vapour. We call this process evaporation . Condensation As the water vapour rises, it gets colder.

It turns into liquid and forms clouds. This is called condensation . You can see condensation happening when you pour ice cold water into a glass. Drops form on the outside of the glass. This is because vapour in the warm air turns into water. What happens after the clouds form? They get heavy and rain starts to fall. The water cycle begins again. Evaporation

1 Where is rainwater collected? 2 What is water vapour? 3 When can you see water vapour rising from the ground? 4 What happens when water vapour rises? 5 How can you observe the process of condensation? 6 Which of the following statements is true? a) We cannot reuse water. b) We can use water again and again. c) We can create more water.

7 What was the most interesting thing you learned from this internet page? 8 Do you think the internet is a good way of finding out information? Why?

• Reading: Discuss the purpose of the diagrams (e.g. to help us understand the written text). • Question 8: Point out to students that not everything on the internet is true. They should always check more than one website. • After reading, ask students if they found the answers to the questions they made in the ‘Let’s talk’ exercise. If not, discuss where they might find the answers.
