Language Tree SB 3

Unit 18

Speaking and listening: act a play

Work in groups of five. Act out the first three scenes of the play. • Discuss how you think the play will end.

• Prepare the ending of the play. • Act your ending to other groups. Language: joining sentences

We can use the words after , before and while to join sentences. Mommy iced the cake after the children went to bed. She baked the cake before she iced it. Kellie and Joel went into the kitchen while Mommy was asleep. 1 Complete these sentences with before , after or while . Example: Mommy iced the cake before she put it in the cupboard. 1 The children cleaned the floor ________ Kellie dropped the cake. 2 Everyone was excited ________ the party started.

• Speaking and listening: Help your students prepare to act out the play. Tell them to decide who will play each part and to think about how they will speak their lines. • They may want to add more actions and some noises, e.g. Crash!!! when Kellie drops the cake. CR Students can perform the play in Creole and improvise the lines they speak. Alternatively they can make their own Creole play about a missing cake. 3 We played games outside ________ Grandma washed up. 4 We were hot and thirsty ________ we finished playing. 5 Mommy wrapped Daniel’s presents ________ he went to bed. 6 Grandpa watched TV ________ Grandma had a rest.
