3 C hoose two words from Exercise 2. Make sentences to show their different meanings. Example: The bark of the tree is yellow and brown. The dog gave a loud bark.

Writing: write a scene for a play Write the last scene for the play on pages 131–132. Either: Use the ending you prepared for the ‘Speaking and listening’ exercise. Or: Use your own ideas. 1 Write the first draft of your scene.

Type your play. Use a different colour for each character.

2 Revise your draft. Use the checklist to help you.

Checklist for writing a play Have you: written the name of each character when he or she speaks? written the words each character says? included stage directions to tell the actors what to do?

DA  Exercises 2 and 3: Allow students to complete these exercises orally according to ability. Some students may be able to write sentences. •  Writing: You may wish to complete this as a class exercise first on the board. Let students contribute their own ideas. Encourage them to add extra details when they write for themselves.
