How I feel there happy, do what I want there

My bedroom is quite big. It has a window facing the sea. Last year, Daddy painted my bedroom pale blue. I have pictures of my favourite animals and flowers on the walls. My bed is in the corner under the window. I sleep there every night. Beside my bed there is a table where I keep my books and my pencils. When I wake up in the morning I open the window and look out. I love to feel the cool breeze on my face. Sometimes if it is windy, I can hear the waves crashing on the beach. On the weekend I do not go to school. In the morning I stay in my room and read or draw. Often I can hear Mommy and Daddy talking in the kitchen. Sometimes I can smell Mommy making toast. I love my bedroom. It is my favourite place because I can do what I want there.

What writer does there

How writer feels and why

• Show students how the writer uses a concept map to plan the description. • Discuss which senses the writer uses in the description, e.g. colour of room – sight , sound of waves – hearing , toast – smell , cool breeze – touch . Explain that we do not need to include all five senses in a description. We can focus on one or two senses. Here, the writer focuses mainly on the senses of sight and hearing.
