Unit 5 Clean-up Day
Listen up! Who is speaking? What is her purpose? What is the audience for her talk? What instructions does she give? Why? How could you make your school a place to be proud of?
Reading Clean-up Day
Alyssa’s teacher, Mr. John, looked very stern when he came into the classroom. “I am disappointed in you,” he told the class. “The classroom was a mess yesterday. There was a lot of paper on the floor. Many of you did not put your books away. What do you think we should do about it?”
Joel put up his hand. “We should take turns to clean the classroom at the end of the day.” “No, I disagree. That is unfair,” said Alyssa’s friend, Neesha. “I don’t want to pick up someone else’s litter.” “I have a better idea,” said Tyler. “In my brother’s school they have tidiness monitors. They check the classroom every day. If anyone drops litter, they ask them to pick it up.” “Do you think that is a good idea?” Mr. John asked the class. Most of the students nodded their heads.
