The students were busy on clean-up day. They collected all the litter. They put it in plastic

sacks. When the sacks were full, they carried them to the garbage bins. Then Alyssa went to get a broom. She asked the other girls to help her sweep the yard. When the yard was clean, she called Mr. John. He told the students that he was very pleased with them.

• Speaking and listening: Move around the classroom as students prepare their plans to check that they stay on topic. After students have discussed their plans, copy the web onto the board. Choose pairs to present their ideas to the class. DA Place students in mixed ability pairs to complete the web.
