Writing: report Imagine that you had a clean-up day at your school. Write a report. 1 Work in pairs. Before you start to write, discuss these questions. Topic What am I writing about? Purpose Why am I writing? Audience Who am I writing for? Format What type of text am I writing, e.g. a letter, a story?
2 Plan your report. Use these questions to help you. When? Who? Where? What? 3 Write the first draft of your report. 4 Read your reports to one another. Ask each other these questions.
• Are my sentences clear? • How can I make it better? Listen to each other’s suggestions.
5 Make changes to your report to improve it.
• Planning: Encourage students to think about topic , audience , purpose and format each time they plan a new piece of writing. There is a graphic organiser on page 144 you can use with them. • Tell your students to use their imagination to write about clean-up day. They can use the ideas they discussed in the ‘Speaking and listening’ exercise on page 38.
