Some verbs are irregular in the past tense. tell è told: The animals told each other stories. go è went: Anansi went to see Snake.

Example: Mr. and Mrs. Goat went …

Mr. and Mrs. Goat go to market. Mrs. Goat takes a basket with her. At the market they meet some of their friends.

Mrs. Goat buys some tomatoes. She pays the trader. When she goes home, she makes some delicious tomato soup. Mr. Goat eats it all. 4 Complete the sentences with past tense verbs. Not all the verbs are irregular. 1 Mr. Goat ________ Mrs. Goat some money.

54 •  There are hundreds of irregular past tense verbs. Your students can record and learn them as they come across them. Get them to make example sentences with these verbs, as it is easier to learn them in context.
