Word work: suffixes
A suffix is a letter or group of letters we put at the end of words to change their meaning. thirst + ‘y’ = thirsty help + ‘ful’ = helpful
1 Copy these words and underline the suffixes. Learn how to spell them.

4 Revise your description to make it better.
71 • Writing: To generate ideas for the writing task, brainstorm adjectives which describe a garden. Draw a web on the board (see graphic organiser on page 144). Use it to help students structure their description. • Revising: Make a simple checklist with students of points to check when they revise their work, e.g. Have I used interesting words/ written in sentences? • A sample description can be found on page 142.
