Unit 15
Editing
Read your work. Ask yourself: Can I make it better?
Revise these stories. 1 Join some of the sentences.
I picked a flower. I picked some leaves. I put them in a pot. I gave them to Auntie.
2 Put an adjective in each sentence. Mom made a stew. Dad made a cake. We gave Grandma a present.
Word work: opposites
A breadfruit tree is big . A buttercup is small . Big and small are opposites .
DA Exercise 1: Some pupils may work in mixed ability pairs. You may want to support other pupils in a group. • Use a class activity to prepare for Exercise 2. Write other similar sentences on the board and edit them together. ( For example, ‘I sat in a chair and watched a movie.’ might become ‘I sat in a comfortable chair and watched a funny movie.’ ) • Help pupils to see that the revised version is more interesting to read. ICT Extension: Demonstrate how to revise a text through shared writing. This can be done on the board or electronically on a tablet. Demonstrate how you change words, cut and paste text and insert clip art.
