Anansi and the Yams: Part 2 One day, Old Turtle had some yams. “Please can I have some?” asked Anansi. Old Turtle said, “You can have some yams, but first you must come home with me.” “I will,” said Anansi.

Old Turtle went home. “Oh no!” said Anansi. “Your home is in the river! “I can’t go in the river.”

Old Turtle sat in the river and he ate all the yams. Anansi was very angry. Old Turtle said, “I am old but I am not stupid.”

• Question 3: There are three possible answers a) Old Turtle’s hands were dirty. b) Everyone should wash their hands before they eat – take the opportunity to discuss hygiene – c) Anansi wanted Old Turtle to go away so that he could eat all the yams. • Ask pupils if Anansi is mean, friendly or kind? Knowing what they do about Anansi’s character , which answer to Question 3 do they think is correct?
