Speaking and listening Choose one verse. Practise reading it aloud. • Read it fast. • Then read it slowly. Which sounds better? In each verse: • Pupil A: read lines 1 and 3. • Pupil B: read lines 2 and 4. Make up actions to go with some of the lines.
Language: ‘has’ and ‘have’
Use has for one person, place or thing: My cat has a bad temper .
1 Finish each sentence using ‘has’. Example: That black cat has a long tail. 1 The black cat ______ a long tail. 2 The fat cat ______ too much to eat.
3 The thin cat ______ no dinner. 4 The bald cat ______ no hair. 5 The sad cat ______ no friends.
Use have for more than one person, place or thing: All cats have sharp claws . Use have after ‘I’ and ‘you’: You have a sweet kitten .
I have a pet mouse .
• Speaking and listening , extension: Arrange a class performance with four groups each reciting a different verse of the poem on pages 109–110, and performing actions .
