Then, Don’s Daddy said, “We are going to make music.” He told them all what to do. The children worked hard. Ellie put beans inside a can. She shook it. Don made a drum and banged it. At 5 o’clock all the Mums and Dads came. The children made music. The mums and dads sang. Then they all had cake.

• Extension: Search the internet to find instructions on making simple musical instruments. Ask pupils to bring in materials and make them together. Have pupils write invitations to their parents (or to another class) to come and hear them play.
