What have I learnt? (Units 16–18) page 121
Anansi thought. “There’s no harm in just tasting the beans.” And he dipped a spoon and tasted. They were delicious. Anansi thought. “I won’t take a bowl but if I put some beans in my hat, Grandma will never know.” And he filled his hat with steaming hot beans. Just then, Grandma came back. To hide the beans, Anansi grabbed the hat with the hot beans and put it on his head. His face went red then he jumped about in pain. Grandma thought he was dancing and she laughed. After a few seconds, Anansi could stand the pain no longer and pulled the hat off his head. Beans flew everywhere and Anansi was as bald as an egg. The beans had cooked his hair right off! Grandma stopped laughing and Anansi ran straight home and didn’t go near Grandma Spider again for a long time.
The Lost Purse Read this text aloud then ask pupils to answer true or false to the questions on page 121. Dan was on his way to school. Just outside the school gate, he saw a blue purse and he picked it up. He opened it and looked inside. There was some money in the purse and there was a key too. Dan took the purse into class and showed it to Mrs. James. “I think that must be Lily’s purse,” said Mrs. James. “Lily was upset because she lost her purse this morning.” Lily was in the same class as Dan and he gave the purse to her. She was very pleased. “Thank you, Dan,” she said.
