• Remind pupils that every story has a setting and one or more characters . Question 1 asks about the setting of this story (answer b). • Ask how many characters there are in this story. ( one ) How many characters were there in the story they listened to? (three) • Invite pupils to respond to stories by asking what they like or don’t like about the story and which part they liked best. • Ask pupils which story they like best (“The Ant and the Dove” or “Brother Dog and the Bone”). Ask them to give reasons. • Tell pupils that most stories have three parts: the beginning, the middle and the end. Ask pupils to help you make a sentence about each part of “Brother Dog and the Bone”. • For more work on settings, see Workbook 1 page 99.
