• Explain that a journal is a notebook in which you write regularly. You can write about what happens to you and about your ideas and feelings. Encourage pupils to keep their own journals. Set aside time to write in them. • Model journal-writing by keeping a class journal. Have pupils add to the entries until they are ready to begin their own journals. • For more on journal writing see the online teacher’s guide at www.macmillan-caribbean.com • Extension: Ask pupils who wrote the journal ( Alvin ) and when he wrote this entry ( 24th May ). • Question 4: remind pupils that the main idea is what the whole piece of writing is about.
