Listen up! Listen to your teacher read a poem. 1 Who does the poet want to be like? Why? 2 Do you know anybody like that? What do they do and say? Reading People I Like I like my Daddy. He is strong and he has long long arms to hug me.
I like my Grandad. He is kind and he doesn’t mind if I am noisy .
I like my Grandma. She is small but she has all the time in the world for me.

• Listen up! Read aloud the Listening Text from page 125 and ask the questions. Ask pupils to suggest what the poet is saying, using Standard English. • Reading: Ask what pupils notice about the way the words are set out on the page. (Short lines arranged in groups.) • Ask pupils what they notice about the first three words of each verse. ( They are the same. ) Ask pupils to find a pair of rhyming words in each verse.
