Speaking and listening Practise reading the poem aloud. How might you say the word noisy ?

• Speaking and listening , extension: Put pupils in pairs or groups. Ask pupil A to read lines 1 and 2 of each verse. Ask pupil B to read lines 3 and 4. DA Put fluent readers together with pupils who read less well. • Encourage them to read with expression – to stretch out the word ‘long’ to make it sound long; say the word ‘noisy’ very loudly; say the phrase ‘all the time in the world’ very slowly. Pupils can mime ‘strong’ and ‘small’.
