Unit 15 Plants

Listen up! Listen to your teacher. 1 What is the song about? 2 Which words rhyme with ‘grow’ and with ‘seed’? 3 Do plants grow near your school? 4 Do you know the names of any of them? Reading Plants Some plants are big. Some are small. A breadfruit tree is big. A buttercup is small.

We can eat some plants We can eat some plants but we can not eat all plants. We eat beans and we eat oats. We do not eat buttercups or grass. Lots of animals eat grass.

• Listen up! Read or sing the song from the Listening Texts page 125. • Reading: Before reading, if possible, take pupils on a local walk, looking at plants and trees and telling pupils the names of some of them. Alternatively, bring plants into the classroom for them to identify. • Ask pupils if they know how big a buttercup is and to show it with their hands. Ask: How big is a breadfruit tree? Is it bigger than a child? Is it bigger than a house?
