Commas in lists

WB 4 p25

We use commas in lots of ways. A comma always tells us to pause. • We use a comma to separate items in a list. • We don’t usually put a comma before ‘and’. Mix the milk , brown sugar and vanilla extract together.

6

Rewrite these sentences, putting the commas in the right places. 1 Put in cinnamon nutmeg and ginger. 2 Mix the eggs flour and sugar.

3 There was a choice of juice water and cola to drink. 4 Add a cup of milk a pinch of salt and a spoonful of oil. 5 Go past the church the post office and the store. 6 Put the hammer the screwdriver and the nails in the box.

DA Exercises 6 and 7: Work through the sentences orally with some students before they write.
