Writing: Visit our island

Prepare a group project to attract visitors to your country.

Each member of the group select one or more items to research.

What are the most popular tourist spots in your country? Look at the websites of some of these places.

Research Find out as much as you can about the items

you chose. You could

• Look on the internet • Look in an encyclopaedia • Ask your teacher or a librarian • Ask friends or family

Make notes, draw pictures and collect any other information that might be useful (such as maps, menus or flyers).

Give a short presentation to your group.

Prepare your part of the project. 1 Write a couple of paragraphs based on your notes. 2 Revise and edit what you have written. 3 Make a neat copy and illustrate it, using pictures you have drawn or items you have collected. Complete your group project. Collect the work of all group members. Prepare a title page with the name of your project. Give your project to your teacher.

Type and print your work. Explore fonts, font sizes and colour.

• Group work: Remind students how to conduct group work, e.g. listening to others, not interrupting . ICT If possible, help students find information online (in the computer room). Alternatively, demonstrate finding information online in your classroom. Find images and project them for students to see and talk about what you can do there. • Encourage students to include graphics (visual images such as clip art, maps, photos from flyers etc.). DA  Students could research and write in mixed-ability pairs.
