Unit 17
B Design a poster to advertise your event. 1 Write an eye-catching heading. 2 Keep it simple, but include this information: • When is it? • Where is it? • What is it in aid of? • If someone is interested, how can he or she find out more?
Design your poster on a screen. Try out different fonts and colours. Insert clip art or photos.
C Make a list of tasks to be done. This could be in the form of a timetable showing when things need to be done in the run-up to the event.
D Prepare a short presentation for the class. How will you explain your plans? Will you write a speech? Plan a beginning, middle and end. How will you display your graphics?
Remember to speak clearly and to ask your audience for questions. Collect the work together. Put it in a folder with a title page and a list of contents.

Present your project to others.
ICT If computers aren’t available to all groups, you can demonstrate how to design a poster on a tablet or laptop. Students may then make their own hand-drawn posters. ICT Search for “School fundraising poster images” on the internet. Share with students to help them to develop ideas for design and layout of their poster. DA Students can work in mixed-ability pairs. • Extension: During the year, set other projects, such as one on an author whose books they have read. Encourage students to use both print and internet for their research.
