Cause and effect

In the mid-19th century, steam power was discovered. Windmills soon disappeared as they were no longer needed. After seeing how sugar was made in the past we went into the modern factory and saw how sugar is made today. The machines were very noisy. Finally, we saw the by-products of sugar refining. Animal feed and building materials are made of the fibre which is left behind after the juice is taken out. Molasses and rum are made from sugar juice. Nothing is wasted. The sugar museum has old things and new

things. We saw some amazing, ancient machines as well as some sparkling modern ones. (The modern ones were quite noisy.) We heard about the history, tasted molasses and smelled rum. I got some syrup on my fingers which was very sticky. I enjoyed the museum. It’s a great place to visit and I learnt a lot.
