Write the first draft of your report. • Use a simile to describe something that you saw. Example: The mangoes were like green balloons . • Use an onomatopoeic word to describe something that you heard.
Example: The water crashed on the rocks.
3 Read what you have written. Check it against the report checklist below.

Have I begun with an introduction? Have I reported what happened in the order in which it happened? Have I described what I saw and what I heard using interesting adjectives? Have I used a mix of long and short sentences? Have I finished with a conclusion?
4 Make changes to your description to make it more interesting to read.
• This report is a chronological report. That is, it presents a sequence of events in the order in which they happened. This type of report has a different structure from a non-chronological report, such as the one in Unit 4 (pages 34–35) in which ideas are organised under headings. • Portfolio: Students’ porfolios can include drafts showing evidence of revision and editing together with a final draft.
