Book Report

In a book report , we say what the story or a book is about and share our opinion of it. This helps other people to choose what to read.

1 A student read a book called “The Water’s Edge”. Read the notes he made.

3

Choose any story or book you have read. Copy the table and put in the green headings. Make notes for your own book report.

4

Write your book report.

You can present a book report in lots of ways: • Write a newspaper article with a catchy headline. • Create a timeline of the story. • Write a poem about it. • Create an interview with a character.

• This activity can be used regularly throughout the year. Students can go on to present their book to another student and they can discuss the book, sharing why they liked or didn’t like it. • Book reports can be presented in other formats, e.g. by writing a poem about a character, making a video of an interview with a character, creating a timeline or rewriting a scene as a playscript. (See online Teacher Guide for more ideas.) • Encourage students to keep reading logs recording the books they read and writing two-weekly book reports.
