DA Work alongside a group of students on the KWL chart. Or students can work in mixed-ability pairs. • A KWL chart begins by activating prior knowledge ( What do I know already? ). It then sets a purpose for reading ( What do I want to know? ). If there are questions which the text does not answer, students are encouraged to expand their learning and find other sources of information. Using a KWL chart helps with summarising, as students have to sum up what they have learnt.
