Sentences and phrases

A sentence is a group of words that makes sense. It can be a statement, a question or an exclamation. A phrase is a group of words that does not make complete sense. It doesn’t have both a subject and a verb. a forest fire most worryingly a big barbecue

• Point out to students that, although we add ‘s’ to verbs in the third person present tense, we do not add ‘s’ when the verb is negative. DA Practise Exercise 2 orally with a group of students according to ability. Exercise 2: Alternatively, students can ask, “Do you go to church/the beach/town?” They should write down their questions and, having asked them, write the answers which will be in the third person. DA Practise the above orally with a group of students according to ability.
