Using pronouns to show ownership

These words are pronouns. They also tell us who owns something. mine yours his hers ours theirs They do not have a noun after them. This is your notebook. Be careful not to confuse pronouns such as, mine and yours with adjectives, such as my and your. They like their dog. (adjective) The dog is theirs . (pronoun)

• Demonstrate how to use possessive pronouns by pointing to an item belonging to a student. Ask another student, “Is this pencil yours, Darrin?” Student answers, “No, it’s not mine. It’s hers.” Ask and answer round the class. CR  Possessives are sometimes used differently in Creole. Make sentences in Creole and Standard English using possessive nouns for students to compare.
