Pronouns – subject and object

We use pronouns in place of nouns. When the noun is the subject of the sentence we use a subject pronoun. Gran rapped. She rapped.

3 Find the subject of the sentence. Replace it with a subject pronoun. Example: The boys and girls enjoyed Gran’s raps. è They enjoyed Gran’s raps . 1 Gran likes to wear crazy clothes. 2 The clothes are usually big and colourful. 3 Her hat is enormous. 4 Mom and I take Gran shopping. 5 The bus driver knows Gran. 6 All the people on the bus say hello to her. •  Exercise 2: The part of the sentences provided in this exercise (e.g. roll down the hill ) is the predicate. See page 39 for work on subject and predicate . • If appropriate, tell students that a verb that takes an object is a transitive verb (I like Gran. I sang a song.) and verbs that do not have an object are intransitive verbs (I cried. I sang.) .
