Choose one sentence to be your first line. Make up another line that rhymes with it. Continue writing rhyming couplets. 3 Revising • Practise saying your rap to a beat. Which parts sound good? Which parts are not so good? • Make changes until you are happy with the way it sounds. • Write it out carefully.

Perform your rap to your class or to another class.

•  Writing: The rap can be composed as a class activity with the teacher acting as scribe. Choose a topic and ask students to work in pairs or groups to think of rhyming sentences. Write some of these on the board. Choose the best and revise them with the help of the class. ICT  Make audio recordings of some of the raps. Encourage students to listen to their own. Help them to work on one area. (e.g. rhythm, enunciation, pace). Record the final performance and, with students, compare the two. • Portfolio: Make sure students include different poetic forms in their portfolio.
