Writing: paragraphs You are going to research a job you are interested in.

Choose a job and find out more about it. 1 What do you want to know? Write some questions. 2 How can you find answers to your questions?

While you are researching, make notes. Write your notes under headings or as a word web. This will help you to organise your ideas. Write your first draft. • Begin each paragraph with a topic sentence which states the main idea. • Use your notes to write sentences containing detail. Revise what you have written. Are your ideas clear? Have you included details about the job?

• Brainstorm with students which jobs they might research. Discuss why they might be interesting. • Ask students how they can do their research (Look on the internet or in the library. Ask a teacher, friends, family or someone who does the job). DA Some students may develop their work into a full report with an introduction and conclusion. • Portfolio: Invite individual students to assess their own progress and help them to choose which texts to include in their portfolio.
