Choose two of the above words and test your partner on them.

Writing 1: a description Which of these descriptions is more interesting? Why? 1 The boy walked towards the tree. 2 The young boy walked slowly towards the extraordinary tree. Imagine you are in the forest, watching the boy from “The Tree of Life”. Describe how he moves and what he can see and hear. Use interesting adjectives and adverbs.

Writing 2: a story You are going to make up a story beginning with your description. Imagine the boy found something different in the forest. • What did he find?

• What did he do with it? • What was the problem?

DA Exercise 3: You may give some students fewer words to learn to spell and ask them to test each other on only one from each exercise. • Writing: “What did he find?” Tell students they can use the pictures to get ideas or think of their own. DA To support students you may begin the story and ask them to provide an ending. Alternatively, you can supply the ending for them to work towards. ICT Extension: Help students to create an audio recording with sound effects of one of their descriptions.
