T here are those who believe that Terence Crawford, who spent five years taking over the welterweight division and has had only one fight at 154 pounds, is too small to handle Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed king at 168 pounds. And then there are those who believe Crawford is just plain good enough to pull it off. It was not too long ago that a certain 154-pound champ – Jermell Charlo – attempted a similar journey and lost in a noncompetitive fight. But unlike Crawford, Charlo had at least been at junior middleweight throughout his career, while “Bud” won his first title all the way back at lightweight. Junior middleweight is new territory, having only strayed there in his most recent fight against Israil Madrimov, whom Crawford beat by unanimous decision in a competitive bout.
