as the other; and when you overturn it again it is right side up still. Every little while somebody blows up the Bible; but when it comes down it always lights on its feet, and runs faster t h an ever through the world. They overthrew the Bible a century ago, in Voltaire's time—entirely demolished the whole thing. In less than a hundred years, said Voltaire, Christianity will have been swept from existence, and will have passed

into history. Infidelity ran riot through t r a n c e, red-handed and impious. A century has passed away. Voltaire has 'passed into history,' and not very respectable history, either; but his old printing press, it is said, has since been used to print the Word of God; and the very house where he lived is packed with Bibles, a depot for the Geneva Bible Society. Thomas Paine demolished the Bible, and finished it off finally; but a f t er he had so done, he crawled despairingly into a drunkard's grave in 1809."

the grave clothes removed and to be a free man, Jno. 8:36. Wh at sweet concourse be- tween this man and his Lord. Marv the Worshipper. She is mentioned last. She had taken the lowest place but the Lord exalted her to the highest, Luke 10:42. Tou think of Mary at the feet of Jesus always. At His feet is the place for forgiveness, Matt. 9:2; for help, Mark 5:2; for deliverance from Satan, Mark 7:25. It is the place for worship, Matt. 28:9. H e re Mary poured out her heart in devotion to her Master. Learn some lessons from Mary's love for her Lord. Love is intuitive. You need no directions nor instructions to love. It finds a way, and anticipates desire. She knew t h at some great grief was before Him and sought to anoint Him. Love is Inex- pressible. No words are adequate to e x - press love's depths. It is spoken in deeds. She poured out her heart in her offering. Love is Independent In Method. There was nothing too good for Him. It was not a question of tithing with her. Wh en Love operates, you do not need a system. Love knows no limit. It gives its best. Love is inexhaustible in results. The disciples would have checked her lavish expenditure. "Why this w a s t e%" It is a carnal spirit which talks of waste where He is concerned. "Let her alone." The dealing of the soul in these sacred things is with the Lord. She had wrought a good work. She had blessed and comforted Him. H e r memorial is the approbation of the Lord. Matt. 26:13. Down through, the cen- turies, throughout the whole world, millions have read the story and meditated upon the devotion of Mary. The Church is f r a g- r a nt with the odor of the ointment. Blessed is this Mary among women.

MARY'S MEMORIAL. J no. 12:1-11. The resurrection of Lazarus resulted in the crystallization of opposition against Jesus. The Jews called a council to per- fect" a plan for putting H im to death. The Lord therefore returned to the district of E p h r a im and remained until the week be- fore the Passover, JnQ. 11:53-67. Six days before the Passover He came to Bethany, the home of Mary and Martha. The scene of our lesson is laid in the house of Simon, Matt. 26:6. H e re is a remarkable group, representing four different relations of the believer to his Lord. Simon the Leper. The Host. H e enter- t a i n s ' t he guest and is a type of those who are healed of the awful disease of sin and saved from its torment and suffering. The leper was an unclean man, Lev. 13:44. Christ had made him wliole. Sin defiles us but the "blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanses lis from all sin." 1 Jno. 1:9. A saved sinner can entertain the Lord of Hosts. Martha the Servant. This is the blessed relationship. To be the servant of the King. But we must be careful lest we be cum- bered in service, Luke 10:40. We mu st never be so absorbed in our service t h at we have no time for the study of God's Word or for prayer. Even service m ay lose its joy if we worry and fret in our doing of it, Rev. 2:19. Lazarus the Friend. He had been raised from the dead. He had sweet fellowship n i t h the Lord. He knew self as crucified. Gal. 2:20. He knew wh at it was to have
