The Creeping Shadows of Nightfall n mazingly ignorant o f the Word of God, or appallingly ig norant o f recent world events, or both, must be the man who fails to realize that the stage is being set for those stupendous events which shall draw to a close the '’ present age and usher in the rule o f the heavens. Cataclysmic events, beyond the power of words to describe, will pass soon across the stage with terrifying rapidity—the resurrection o f the righteous, the “ twinkling-of-an- eye” change o f the saints that are alive, the translation o f both to gether to meet the Lord in the air, the reign o f the Antichrist, the

Words like these have often rung in the parliaments o f Europe, and on that unhappy con tinent the prophecy o f James has seen much recent fulfillment; but who would have been so bold as to have prophesied even five short years ago that the “ ominous shad ows’’ would be falling in 1933 upon the great rich nation o f America? When the “ shadows” fall upon America-—the world’s last stronghold o f happy freemen —the night is not far away! Again we read o f a meeting in Washington, D.C., in which 4,000 One o f the speakers at the meet ing was a United States Senator. In one of the addresses, John Simpson, President o f the Farm

“ great tribulation,” the “ time o f Jacob’s trouble,” the judg ment o f Gog, the judgment of ecclesiastical Babylon, the gathering of the armies o f the nations against Jerusalem, the battle o f Armageddon, the descent o f the King of kings with His saints, the destruction of Antichrist and his hosts, the chaining o f Satan, the rising o f “ the Sun of righteous ness . . . with healing in his wings” (Mai. 4 :2 ) over a sorely distressed world, and the reign o f the Son of David over the nations, beginning a thousand years o f peace! In feverish expectancy, with exceeding joy, we await the rising o f the curtain! These are anything but days o f de pression for the believing children o f G od ! If our world-rulers today were well-informed as to the “ sure word o f prophecy” (which they are not), and if they were actually in alliance, acting together with the sole aim o f ordering world events to fulfill all the words o f the prophets who “ spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Pet. 1 :21), they could not do a better job than they are doing today. The task o f the rulers o f the hour is to set the stage, and they are doing it faithfully. Nearly all o f them unbelieving, unregenerate, Bible-scorning, God- defying—verily, He that sitteth in the heavens must laugh (Psa. 2 :4) ! . The news sheets today overflow with the story o f the God o f Israel marching on along the prophetic highway as truly as the stars run their courses in the heavens. Only the utterly blind cry out: “ Where is the promise o f his coming?” (2 Pet. 3 :4 ). T o but a few o f the significant paragraphs will we refer as we speed along. Ominous Shadows On the floor o f the American Congress, on March 15, Representative Cross, o f Texas, speaking o f the gen eral state o f our nation, said: Why do our manipulating money barons continue to intimidate and frighten us by propaganda, through press, mail, and radio ? Have we not been generous in legislation for them? Have they forgotten the French Revolution with its guillotine, its Dantons and Robespierres ? Russia with her Lenis and Stalins ? There is a Mussolini in Italy, a Hitler in Germany, while in America “coming events are casting their ominous shadows before.” When the storm breaks it will be too late then, and there will be no cellars in which to hide.

ers’ Union, said in the course of his remarks: The Czar o f Russia was unmindful of the menace of revolution in his country. During the French Revolution, the ultrarich of France were out on their game preserves enjoying themselves, completely oblivious to the seeds of revolution they had sown. They returned to Paris only to contribute their blood to the stream that flowed in the streets of that city. The ultrarich of this country are as blind, deaf, and dumb to conditions that exist here as were the tyrants of other countries even up to the very day o f destruction. They are so blind with lust to get more that they cannot in any way conceive there is danger ahead. They do not realize that it would be a lot better for them to be satisfied with a part of something than to end up with all of nothing and lose their heads besides. No one who has read his Bible can fail to think o f the words o f James 5:1 to 5: , “ Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your mis eries that shall come upon you . . . Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, . . . the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears o f the Lord of Sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure . . . and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day o f slaughter.” However, the children o f God need not despair. They may see only too well the shadows darkening into the night. But they know that it is at niightfall that “ the husbandman” that “ waiteth for the precious fruit o f the earth” shall receive unto Himself His “ fruit.” Glorious prospect! Our Dictator-Shackled World Picking up the Chicago Tribune (April 23, 1933), con sidered by many to be America’s foremost newspaper, our eyes fall first upon a striking cartoon spread in the center o f the front page, picturing our poor old world standing pilloried and shackled by tyrannical dictatorships, Fascist, communist, and otherwise. Who, knowing the great proph ecies o f the Word as they relate to “ the time of the end,” is not thrilled by this bit o f pictured truth? For it is in an
