The concept of the Seventh Gen- eration Learning Series is that the lessons learned in each of the optional workshops have value for both the young and the old. The evening workshops are offered in both English and French. Participants can choose to attend one or more of the work- shops, depending on their interest. The first workshop, which took place early in November, was an introductory session with the theme of “Simple Living” and a fo- cus on learning how to simplify lifestyle de- mands to promote a quieter, more peaceful life. Two of the workshops are of interest to residents dealing with home improve- ments. “Get Energy Smart” on Nov. 20 offers

“simple ways to save energy and save mon- ey” while “Ecological Home Renovations” on Jan. 15 provides advice on home renovation projects that also respect the environment. “A lot of people we end up talking to are homeowners,” Leet said. “People have more control over what they can do in their own homes.” The “Sustainable Food” workshop on Dec. 4 provides information on diet and food and how the two relate to the environment. There will also be advice on how to shop locally and economically for almost all nu- tritional needs while at the same time sup- porting local farms.
