I t w a s o n e of “ those days.” Mother had been constantly challenged to prove in one way or another that she knew for certainty what she was do ing. Sometimes such challenges can be an affront to an “ expert,” and Mother thought she was an expert in spelling. She was proofreading an important manuscript. The p r o p e r noun, “ Tschaikovsky” did not look right. The first “ s” was omitted. Who had ever seen it spelled “Tchaikovsky?” As Mother “ red-penciled” in the miss ing “ s” , an inner voice insisted “ look it up.” Wearily, she consulted available encyclopaedias and the unabridged dictionary. Talk about a surprise! These authorities allowed for either spelling. And to add insult to injury, one preferred the “Tc” spelling! “Live and learn,” thought Mother. “You can’t win all the time. Spelling isn’t known as an exact science, es pecially in the area of proper nouns. No two names with the same sound have to be spelled exactly alike. It certainly is never too late to learn.” Now a song came to Mother’s mind. “ There’s a new name written down in glory, And it’s mine.” Comfort swept over Mother’s soul. There is one place where names are recorded accurately. That place is heaven. What is more, each person is known by his name to the great Recorder. And He never makes a mistake. There is no place in heaven for choice of spelling. Nineteen hundred years ago, God’s Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ, made it possible for our names to be written in heaven’s book. The bodily resur rection of Jesus Christ .completely jus tified all who will ever believe in Him. To make our joy complete, the Bible assures us that “ this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into hea ven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). The purpose for the com ing of the Babe of Bethlehem was clearly manifested at the cross and fulfilled in the resurrection. Rejoice! Your Redeemer lives and He knows your name. APRIL, 1963
