NATIONAL SCHOOLS SAILING CHAMPIONSHIPS

JAMES REDSHAW (YEAR 12) AND CHARLIE DEE (YEAR 11)

F our boys from the Middle School (James year’s National Schools’ Sailing Championships at Itchenor. It is the second time Dulwich has entered a sailing team and it was a great opportunity for us to race competitively in Fireflies against other schools. There were 62 boats from 25 different schools competing, so the competition was tough, especially given that the other schools train on a bi-weekly basis and are coached professionally. The first day was a training day, which enabled us to get to know the area, the winds and the tide. We didn’t do as well as we would have wanted initially Redshaw, Ben Taffs, Charlie Dee and Jasper Freeman) represented Dulwich College at this

but this gave us the incentive to do really well in the race the next day. In fact, we did do better, as James Redshaw and Jasper Freeman consequently won the Nick Prosser Trophy. Not far behind in the rankings were Ben Taffs and Charlie Dee, who also provided good competition for the other competitors. The weather was fantastic throughout the week: the moderate winds and sunny conditions enabled us to have a thoroughly enjoyable yet challenging week. A huge thank you must go to Miss Lofts for arranging everything and organising us to compete in the event and to Mr Williams for accompanying us, too.
