The Managing Directors of Dulwich’s newest companies, the Young Enterprise teams Minerva and Revive, share their experience of setting up and running a business.

MINERVA Chris Sealey (Year 12) O ur first task was to name our company and, after much deliberation, we settled for Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, arts and trade. After hours of brainstorming, we decided that our product would be a children’s cookbook. In the process of deciding on this, we had realised that the members of our group came from all over the world and we took advantage of this in creating our Kids Cook It book. Each member submitted three recipes from their country of origin, thus giving us a truly international cookbook.

Each member of the team was given a specific role, for example designer, product manager or market researcher. The cost of production was £4 per book. After careful research and comparison with similar books on the market, we priced the product at £6. This enabled us to be both competitive and profitable. Our initial print run of 100 sold well and the profits from selling these, and some constructive criticism from our readers, allowed us to develop the second edition. We printed another 50 books, although this time at a
